Eighteen....

I mentioned last week that it was a momentous occasion for us this weekend.... well here it is... Harriet turned 18!!! It felt like I was preparing for it ALL week... well in my head anyway! And, Harriet was definitely preparing for it all week... constant texts and calls to friends to make plans for the meal out on her birthday night, haircut on Wednesday and a manicure and eyebrow shaping (???) on Friday, and she was almost ready... oh I forgot, costume making on Tuesday! As you can imagine, I was just taxi service, sewing advisor and bank all week!... Thanks goodness it only happens once in her lifetime... one more daughter to go for me, but not for another four years yet.
So, here we girls are decorating the Birthday cake and chocolate chip cupcakes for the family gathering on Saturday lunchtime... did I mention that I was also cooking for 21 family members too??? Oh, and 9 friends on Friday evening!
This was actually a lovely evening. We had the i-pod playing in the background and we were enjoying each others company whilst being creative.. another of those moments when, as a mother, you just feel complete!

We lost count of the number of icing balls we made... aren't the colours fab?

Spots and stripes ready for the cupcakes....

In the midst of all this cooking, baking and ferrying around, I had to find a few spare minutes to make a card for Harriet....
What could it be..... I wonder?

I'm not too good at freehand embroidering words yet, but I gave it a go....

... and here is the finished card.........
Beads and buttons take the place of icing balls and spots....

The weekend long party started with the arrival of several 'rag dolls' on the doorstep for a sleep over.... here they are. Look who's excited... anyone would think it was their birthday!
Please note... costume made by Harriet!
At midnight we lit candles and sang Happy Birthday". The big day had finally arrived....
Presents were abundant....

And... Ta dah..... here is the cake......
It has the 'Yvonne' touch with button flowers on the top!! We were worried that the top would sink into the bottom, but ... hooray... it didn't. Didn't we do well Harriet?

Ohhh look it's my cake... along with spotty candles and sparklers....

Ready, steady... make a wish and BLOW!
It has been a real privilege to be Harriet's mummy. I have loved every minute of it and am so, so proud of her. She is such a beautiful, talented , fun loving, compassionate, loving daughter. She is incredibly precious to me and I love her with all my heart.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY sweetheart.

p.s there are still spaces at the jewellery making class tomorrow at 'Pebbles'.... see poster in side bar and call me if you would like to come.....
Lucky me, guess who gets to sleep with the sound of the waves gently lapping on to the shore at Budleigh????
