All the fun of the fair....

It was on an overcast Saturday morning a couple of weeks ago that we packed up the car, you know the drill, gazebo, tables, tablecloths, props, products, lunch, flask, small people etc.... to over flowing... to attend the Ippelpen Cottage Garden Society Fair. I went last year and had a lovely day, there was a real sense of community, it was colourful, relaxed and fun and I was really looking forward to it. Obviously I was hoping for the same again this year, but someone else had other ideas!! We had just got the gazebo up and the jewellery stand looking gorgeous, when, you guessed it, the heavens opened and the rain came down in sheets and the wind blew a gale. The gazebo sides were hurriedly put up... it was like trying to tame a large green kite... and then... disaster!! As we were putting up the back panel, the wind gave an almighty shove and the jewellery all went toppling over! Well!!! You can imagine how I felt!! All I wanted to do was to pack up and go home!! But, being someone who doesn't give up that easily, I stuck around...
This is the view that I had most of the day... notice the rain.!!!
The poor people under the tree had all arrived with their small people all dressed in white ready to perform their maypole dance and were desperately tying to keep dry ... and clean!!
The not so small person that came with me had very cleverly remembered to put 'something to do' in her bag and it wasn't long before that 'something to do' came out...
Obviously my daughter as the 'something to do' was weaving!

What do you think this man was up to???... and why is there a ferret in his sack?

Oh... two ferrets!!!! He was actually using the ferrets to play a game of hide and seek... it was a popular game all day despite the rain.

As well as the fair games, bouncy castle and stalls there was a display of vintage cars and bikes.. isn't this the business?..
My colour....
Awwww... there's two of them..

This has to be my favourite one... look at the cheeky chappie looking out of the back window...

Inside the main marquee there was a lot of hustle and bustle and excited chatter, as this is where all the home grown veggies, handmade items, photos, paintings and flowers were. These had all been judged by the village judges a lot earlier and people were now crammed in and straining to see what prize their exhibit had won... lots of very happy banter going on... oh and village tittle tattle!!
I just loved the colour of these onions

Rows and rows of delicious looking veggies, all perfectly scrubbed and presented...
Rosie and I loved this little fella... He didn't win his section, but we thought he was the best ... What a brilliant idea!

This cheeky monkey won first prize
And this slippery character made us laugh out loud

Then it was on to the flowers.. the colours were stunning

.. and these enormous veggies didn't look real... how do you grow carrots and parsnips that long?
Don't you just love these village events..... so much pride in the simplest of pleasures....

And now for something completely different. August is a really busy month for birthdays and one of those is really special... Remember the story I told you at the beginning of my blog about how Joharo got its name? Well, the small person we fostered has her birthday this month and I have been putting her present together and really enjoyed making something that has been....
A scrummy little tote bag with an applique flower and cute spotty leaf, spotty handles and a flowery lining....
.... the cutest button brooch in colors to match the stripy applique flower...

... Ooooh, what's in this flowery, pretty little case???

.. it's the most adorable little sewing kit, with everything you need to make some little felt corsages... want a closer look?....

Just look at those dinky reels of thread and the bright pink spotty ribbon...

... and I just LOVE these labels.. I want them!!!!

And for mummy I made this bright spirally bag from some scraps of fabric and some of my dyed blankets....

I loved it so much I have made one for myself too... just right for my travels over the next two weeks....
Just look at the zingy lining.. hope 'mummy' likes it... what do you think?

As I mentioned above, I will be off air for a couple of weeks... next week I am off to Shepton Mallet for a christian camp and then the following week I am off, again, to my favourite place with my favourite people...

I am going to miss catching up with everything that you are all doing, but I promise to set aside some time to catch up with you all when I come home.

Take time to relax and enjoy the simple things in life, and for those of you with small people at home, enjoy making memories and having fun together.

Love Yvonne xx

Treats for all...

Hello again! I really can't believe that its been over two weeks since my last blog post... where does the time go? Now that the no so little ones have broken up from school the days seem to whizz by even faster!... Plenty of busyness but also lots of fun. I suppose that I really need to back track a little and let you see the necklace that I made for Esther .....

This was made, as you know if you read the last post, in Cornwall... I was hoping for sun and sea, but instead was treated to rain, more rain and even more rain... at times I thought the caravan might go over, or that I would take off like Dorothy in The wizard of Oz and end up in a far away land full of green witches and small people!!! I am happy to report that I did survive the weather and so did the caravan!
I did, however, manage to have one lovely long walk along the coast path, between the showers

... aren't the colours amazing?

... could easily be abroad somewhere....

.... to Bedruthan Steps....

this is an absolutely amazing place... giant lumps of rock strewn across the beach that is only accessed by a flight of very narrow, slippery, twisty, steep steps!

The walk down is well worth it if the tide is out as it leaves behind a vast expanse of sand and the biggest rock pools you have ever seen... big enough to swim in!!

I was really pleased to have at least managed one superb walk.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Now on to some really exciting news.... the B&B, Pebbles, that my parents have been setting up in Budleigh Salterton is now officially open.
This gorgeous sign was painted by mum and even has real little pebbles stuck to it... isn't it beautiful? When you sit in the garden you can hear many people commenting on the sign and saying how lovely it is... and it is..

Please come in....

On your arrival you will be given a warm welcome and served a cup of tea and homemade cake in the conservatory .... tempted?

To book your stay call Rosemary or Humfrey on 01395 442417 or email them at... stay@bedandreakfastbythebeach.com

And as if that wasn't enough, I am holding two jewellery making workshops in the conservatory at Pebbles on August 20th, one in the morning and one in the evening.
Come and learn some basics of jewellery making and then be let loose on the beads to make your own necklace, bracelet, earrings or ring... the hardest part is not the making but choosing firstly what you are going to make, and secondly, what colour????
For those of you who would like a real treat, why not bring a friend and spend a night at Pebbles too.... what a way to relax and spoil yourselves... homemade cake, fantastic views, breakfast cooked on the Aga and served in the conservatory, falling asleep listening to the sound of the waves... AND jewellery making... what more could a girl want?
Don't take too long to decide, places are limited... so email me for more information... it would be lovely to meet some of you and put names to faces.

Thanks for popping by today, please leave me a comment to let me know that you have popped in.. I really do love to read each and everyone of them
Love
Yvonne xx

'P' is for Party..

Time flies, you have fun, make memories, reach milestones year by year and this year is no exception... my baby turned 13!!!! I don't know about you, but I LOVE being a mummy and really miss those small hands slipping into mine, the freedom of spirit, sense of adventure and wonder at the world, picking up tiny ones as they sleep because they just look so delightful, early bed times, no homework, being needed for comfort and snuggles ... having said that I had a rather large person.. 17 year old Harriet, climb in bed with me a few weeks back after a bad dream that meant she couldn't sleep.. so we snuggled in together :::: two on a single bed is rather a squeeze:: she slept as I balanced on the edge of the bed hoping I wouldn't fall out . In the morning I mentioned that I hadn't had a small person in bed with me for a long time, at which she piped up and said, "But I'm still small inside"! Awwww, I couldn't be grumpy about lack of sleep then could I? How lovely to be needed again!
Anyway, as usual, I digress from the reason for this post... Rosie Posy's 13th Birthday.....
Piles of presents....
with a pony theme....
See what I mean... This was a present from Nana and Humpty, and as you can see she was clearly delighted with it, especially as this next week is activities week at school and she will be horse riding all week... looks like those riding boots and whip I bought her will come in handy too....
No birthday's complete without a party and a cake, and this year was no exception, Rosie decided that she wanted a 'P' Party.... Guests had to wear pyjamas and the food and activities had to begin with P. So Saturday morning was spent decorating the cake... no prizes for guessing the theme....
..... no not a rabbit cake, and I know that carrots don't begin with 'p'.....
...... but a pony cake.... Do you think she looks pleased with it?

Not a bad effort from harriet and I
Then it was down to party princess preparations...
Prettifying....its just a little painful!!
Ahhh... not so bad really, it will be worth it...
See....
Palace preparations... Pink and purple balloons...
Preparations complete. Recognise the bunting???
Present opening
Another present???
Now it's time for party games... Roll a dice, throw a six, dress up and eat chocolate with a knife and fork, meanwhile the dice is still being rolled, so you have to be quick or you may not get to eat any chocolate!!!! Great fun for onlookers, photographers and partakers alike.....
One of the muppets???
Yay, got some ... don't care how I look... just give me the chocolate....
Pink, penguin pyjamas and a psychedelic wig... perfect....
Look... no eyes!!!!
Party games over it's time for food.... paper plates, plastic table cloth, plastic cups and cutlery, paper napkins, pepsi, penguins, peanuts...
....pizza....
and popcorn at the pictures....
Time for birthday cake... I was really pleased to discover these candles, because not only do they say 'Happy Birthday", but there are 13 of them... perfect
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dearest Rosie
Happy birthday to you
Pots of love from mummy xxxxx

p.s... don't forget the competition....
